Change
How do we decide to change? Sometimes it is forced upon us, which can be quite handy so you don’t have to be responsible!
“It wasnt my fault! I had to do this! I had no choice”
Othertimes, we make the decision but it can be instant, no going back or it can take years of agonising and sometimes making the change almost too late!
In the many stages of my working life, I have indeed made many changes, and often called each stage “reinventing myself”. It’s only recently that I’ve become aware of how many aspects I’ve covered, and at the same time, how I’ve come full circle, and why!
Where are all those scarves now? Never mind the zillions of greeting cards, all hand made by myself!
So, after the cards I found myself exhausted and ill. Change was forced upon me! What did I learn from my next phase - five years less a week at Peter Jones? That, no matter how much you are not suited to a job, it’s your attitude that will get you through it! And also a heck of a lot about customer service, which I sincerely hope I’ve developed onwards.
Through lockdown, we all had to change. For me, working from home anyway, there weren’t too many challenging moments, but I missed YOU! This is why it is so important for me to chat away to you like this and retain my connections with you all. I really do look forward to your responses and have indeed struck up some lovely friendships.
From my previous posts, you’ll know about the rainbow scarves, and the fact that I picked up stitched tapestry again. This was all due to the pandemic. The tapestries have been changed to the wonderfully popular Trompe L’Oeil Collection and your response has blown me over! I even won an award for the whole concept at the British Trade Craft Fair! Now, there’s a change I’d never considered - I’ve become an award winner! An all time first.
Sadly, my supply of blank silk scarves (my crêpe de chine range) is coming to its end, and I cannot source a replacement supplier at a reasonable price. So, the change I made in returning to my stitched tapestry has been very fortuitous. And actually, I didn’t want to carry on with the silk scarves as they were. I felt that I could eventually become stale! I’m enjoying the tapestry and the velvet painting so much that I need to dedicate more time to this. Also, I am rebooting myself with glee, searching for a lightweight wool so I can resume painting pashminas. The wool I hope to use will be so fine, they will make an excellent all the year round scarf.
In conclusion, I think “change” has done me well for my 68 years! Whether instigated by myself or forced upon me, it has created many different challenges from which I’ve grown and flourished creatively.
